Today, I will Popularize knowledge about Angle Bar. Actually angle bar is really simple semi-finished material for so many usages such as the column of tower crane in building industry, Shipbuilding industry, Building bridge usage and so on.


Angle bar is also called angle iron by the most of people. From the cross section, you may find that it is as “L-bracket”, two sides are perpendicular to each other and like a form of L. Normally it is made of galvanized steel as low cost and durable feature. According to angle bar’s types, one is equilateral angle steel, another one is unequal angle steel. So same length of two sides namely is called equilateral angle steel, otherwise we call un- equilateral angle steel as two sides are not same length.

Type and Usage

Angle Bar for Shipbuilding

Main product instruction of angle steel for shipbuilding: because of severe working environment of Ship job, angle bar for shipbuilding must meet the features such as good flexibility, high strength, good corrosion resistance, excellent weld-ability and so on. Its chemical composition of materials are quite different from normal angle iron. Its main usage is for internals of hull.

Bulb Bar

Bulb bar is a medium profile used mainly in domain shipbuilding and bridge building. Meanwhile bulb bar for ship is the auxiliary medium profile for shipbuilding and its main features of product as below,

The surface of bulb bar is smooth and roundness, however the rebar is with carved lines.

Normally the factories of bulb bars produce it based on the hot melt because of less of harmful elements in the hot melt. This is the guarantee for good quality bulb bar products.

High-efficiency continuous casting may promise its high rate of cut-to-length, so that satisfying customers’ demand.

L Profile

L profile is called unequal angle namely un-equilateral and unequal thickness. It is the new type profiles exactly for building large ship. So its main features as below,

The section coefficient and stiffness of L Profile Steel are better than those of bulb bar.

As same section coefficient for both of L profile and Bulb bar, the thickness of L profile is less than bulb bar and is favorable to enhance its weld quality.

With same section coefficient, L profile may increase ship’s space of storage and improve economic efficiency.
